Should you put a screen protector on your Apple Watch?
Short answer: for an aluminium Apple Watch worn every day, yes. Here is why, and which screen protector to choose for your Apple Watch Series or Ultra.

Ion-X glass scratches, sapphire cracks
Aluminium Apple Watch Series and SE models use Ion-X glass, which picks up fine scratches from walls, desks and keys. Stainless steel, titanium and the Apple Watch Ultra use sapphire, which resists scratches but can still crack from a direct hit. A screen protector for Apple Watch takes that hit instead.
Glass, case or privacy?
- Clear tempered glass: keeps the original look; best on Apple Watch Ultra with its raised rim.
- Case with built-in glass: covers screen and edges; best for aluminium Series watches.
- Privacy glass or film: hides the screen from the side in public places.
Pick the right size
Check the size engraved on the back. Apple Watch Series 10 and 11 are 42 and 46 mm; Series 7–9 are 41 and 45 mm; Series 4–6 and Apple Watch SE are 40 and 44 mm; every Apple Watch Ultra is 49 mm.
Fitting it without bubbles
Clean the screen with the wet wipe, dry it, remove dust with the sticker, then lay the glass from one edge. Press the centre for a few seconds; small bubbles at the edge usually clear within a day.
Is an Apple Watch screen protector worth it?
An Apple Watch screen protector costs a few dollars; a screen repair on an aluminum Apple Watch Series costs far more, and a cracked sapphire on an Apple Watch Ultra more still. People who wear the watch for workouts, climbing or work with their hands get the most from one; people who take it off at the desk may prefer an ultra clear glass that is almost invisible.
If you also protect your iPhone with a lens cover or a case, the logic is the same: a cheap layer that takes the scratch so the device does not. Close up, a good glass is hard to tell from the original screen, and touch, the always-on display and the sensors work as before.
